Yoga Nidra – The Yoga of Supreme Relaxation
Yoga Nidra, which can roughly be translated from Sanskrit to yogic sleep, is a particular state of consciousness which one can enter which is which is comparable to the “gates of sleep” phase we experience when drifting off to sleep, those last few moments we experience between being awake and entering the first part of our sleep cycle.
At this particular point, our physical bodies are in a state of complete relaxation, very much like deep sleep or meditation, and the yoga Nidra practitioner begins to become increasingly and systematically aware of the deeper inner world by following a series of verbal prompts and instructions.

With four of the five senses internalised, and only the physical sense of hearing remaining. Not so much to serve as a connection to the outside world, but rather to serve as a conduit between the instructor giving the verbal instructions and the yoga Nidra practitioner being guided by them.
