The Ayurvedic Leadership Detoxification Programme in Association With The Foundation for Research, Education and Development (FRED)
Within the behavioural science of Organization Development (Organization Development is a behavioural science used to bring an overall transformation in the workplace. As theory says the internal components of an organization include People, Structure (hierarchies, systems and processes), Jobs & Tasks, Technology, and Management). it has become abundantly and evidently clear and noted that a major role is played out by individuals who work on making changes within themselves, these “self-induced changes” inevitably act as catalysts for changes that take place within these peoples place of work or organizations. Hence we see employees and consultants often work within the human dynamics aspect of an organisation making use of various types of behavioural sciences models. As once famously quoted by Mahatma Gandhi “Be the change you wish to see it in the World”
The behavioural science of Organization Development emerged and was discovered, pioneered and put into practice on a group of Swiss students studying for their PhD’s and Masters degrees in the field of Psychology with a facilitating teacher (by the name of Prof. Michael Zirkler) who was teaching the course on leadership
The professor was inspired to go about creating a workshop designed to be of benefit to leaders within companies and organizations. Added to the facilitator’s role and his amount of personal experience within corporate life and in Academia as an inspiration, the workshop titled “Leadership Detoxification” was born.
The Programmes objectives focus on the fact that leader in various organisations are more vulnerable to the various toxic and destructive emotions that emerge when functioning or acting in the role of a leader. Holding a position of leadership can be compared to ingesting a teaspoon of poison on a daily basis. Each day creates vast amounts of toxins in the mind and body through stress. If these leaders are not prepared and equipped to digest and process these created toxins, they will (and do), over a period of time become self-victims of these toxins, which begin to affect them not only physically and emotionally, but mentally become various psychosomatic affiliations that can begin to affect them.
Over time these generated toxins manifest themselves as excessive defence mechanisms and an overabundance of negative states of mind. In order to go about counteracting this from happening, this workshop was created for people in leadership roles to not only go about in detoxifying the body, but also the mind and emotional state of the attendees. The workshop does acts in conjunction with the knowledge, understanding and practice of the ancient science of Ayurveda
The Vedic wisdom of Ayurveda gives a formula on how to practice living a peaceful and healthy balanced lifestyle, it is essentially a detailed blueprint (together with the practice of Yoga) on living an enlightened and fully achieved life by incorporating authentic Ayurveda. The science of Ayurveda is essentially a treatment system designed to prevent illness or afflictions, heal sickness and preserve life and good health. Ayurveda’s basic principles of treatment are based on the understanding that the whole universe consists of five primal elements. These are water, earth, fire, and ether.
These elements are represented or manifest themselves in human beings as three energies or doshas; they are called Pitta, Vata and Kapha. When any of these doshas over-accumulate in the body beyond a desirable state, the body loses its natural sense of balance. Each individual has a distinct balance, and our wellbeing and state of health rely totally on achieving and maintaining the right balance of these three Doshas ( also called the Tridoshas). Ayurveda suggests specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines to assist individuals in reducing any access doshas.
As defined by the primary Ayurvedic texts or works, a healthy person, is one whose dosha’s are in balance, whose appetite is good, with all of the body’s tissues and natural urges function properly, and whose body, mind and spirit are in good cheer
With the above and understanding, a detailed and systematic approach has been developed and designed to not only detoxify the body, but also the mind. During the five-day detoxification programme, the leaders will go through various sessions of meditation, physical exercises and yoga practices accompanied by Abhyanga and other Ayurvedic treatments, customized by the expert and renowned doctors from the Indus Valley Ayurvedic Center and Spa.
