Overview

An overview of Panchakarma.

Panchakarma is the ancient and revered system of detoxification and rejuvenation in Ayurveda. It is designed to cleanse accumulated toxins, restore harmony to the doshas, and guide the body back toward vitality and balance.

It is not merely a physical treatment, but a profound process that touches the core of wellbeing — body, mind, emotions and inner balance.

01

Purvakarma

The preparatory phase where the body is softened and prepared for detoxification through medicated oils and therapeutic sweating.

02

Pradhanakarma

The core cleansing phase that uses five purificatory actions aligned with the body’s natural elimination processes.

03

Paschatkarma

The post-care phase where rejuvenation therapies, dietary guidance and lifestyle support help sustain the balance achieved through Panchakarma.

Five Purificatory Actions

The five classical Panchakarma actions.

Panchakarma works through five therapeutic actions, each designed to support cleansing, dosha balance and deeper restoration.

01

Vamana

Therapeutic emesis used to cleanse excess Kapha from the upper respiratory and digestive tract.

02

Virechana

Purgation therapy used to clear excess Pitta from the liver, gallbladder and blood pathways.

03

Basti

Enema therapy considered central in Ayurveda for cleansing and nourishing the colon, the seat of Vata.

04

Nasya

Nasal administration of medicated oils to clear Kapha from the sinuses and support mental clarity.

05

Raktamokshana

Blood cleansing therapy used traditionally for conditions connected with blood toxins and Pitta imbalance.

Panchakarma is planned, not randomly applied.

At IVAC, the Panchakarma process is selected and sequenced after understanding the individual’s constitution, imbalance, strength, age, lifestyle and wellness goals. The five actions are not always performed together for every person. The physician decides what is appropriate, how long the preparation should be, and how the body should be supported after cleansing.
