Ayurvedic Effects

Abhyanga (whole body massage) is an ancient technique used for relaxation and revitalisation. It is used to manage and correct Dosha disorders and also improve the basic functioning of the body. Massage stimulates the skin, muscles, the circulatory system and nervous system, improves the skin complexion, strengthens the lungs, intestines and bones, and regulates the digestive system. It promotes vitality, strength, stamina and flexibility. It causes the body to flush out its waste products more efficiently. In general everyone benefits from massage, in particular, it is an excellent therapy for the aged and for infants.
Although Abhyanga is good for all dosha types, it is particularly important if you have a Vata imbalance, or are Vata in nature, and during the Vata (winter) season when the environment is more drying for the skin. Oil massage with Ksheerabala helps keep the skin nourished and moisturized.

Bala - Sida cordifolia
The rejuvenating actions of this herb extend to the nervous, circulatory, urinary and reproductive systems. It is helpful in all types of nervous system disorders including: paralysis, insanity, hemiplegia, stiff neck, headache, sciatica, inflammation of nerves, and neuralgia. Being cooling and astringent, it is used for inflammations and bleeding disorders. Bala is very effective when used topically as medicated oil. It can be used for sore muscles and sore joints. It helps in relieving the pain caused by arthritis and rheumatism.
This is one of the most frequently used Ayurvedic herb because it simultaneously balances all three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). Bala is primarily known for giving stamina or inner strength. It helps balance production of the male hormone testosterone, and increases sexual desire. It builds general immunity. It is a good Rasayana (overall tonic and longevity enhancer). Bala is a good tonic for the lungs. Bala contains five of the six tastes, a very rare property indicating that it provides nourishment of all aspects of nature's intelligence.

Tila taila - Sesamum indicum
Sesame oil is immensely popular in India where its use in oil massage (abhyanga) is part of everyday life and an important aspect of Ayurveda. It is the favourite oil for massage as its chemical structure gives it a unique ability to penetrate the skin easily, nourishing and detoxifying even the deepest tissue layers. In fact it is purported to benefit all of the seven tissues (Dhatus). It is the best oil for balancing Vata but can also be used sparingly for Pitta and Kapha.
Used regularly, sesame oil is wonderful for reducing stress and tension, nourishing the nervous system and preventing nervous disorders, relieving fatigue and insomnia, and promoting strength and vitality. The antioxidants it contains help in slowing the ageing process and increasing longevity, and regular oiling of the skin restores moisture to the skin, keeping it soft, flexible and young looking. It also lubricates the body internally, particularly the joints and bowels, and eases symptoms of dryness such as irritating coughs, cracking joints and hard stools.
