Apply the warmed oil over the entire body and massage using up-and-down strokes over the muscles and circular strokes over the joints. After completing the full body massage, leave the oil on for 15-20 minutes before taking a warm shower.
- Abhyanga should be avoided immediately after administering enemas, emetics or purgatives, during the first stages of fever or if suffering from indigestion.

Triphala is a very effective herbal preparation containing equal proportions of the fruits of Emblica officinalis (Amla), Terminalia chebula (Haritaki) and Terminalia bellirica (Vibhitaki). Each one of these three is a powerful medicine in itself. Vibhitaki is a Kapha remedy, helps with congestive disorders and has a particular ability to cleanse the stomach. Amalaki is recommended for Pitta disorders, including most inflammatory conditions, and cleanses the small intestine. Haritaki is of great benefit in Vata disorders and does a wonderful job cleansing the large intestine, or colon.
Triphala is a natural colon cleanser, relieving constipation, optimizing metabolism and body weight by balancing fat absorption in the colon. It is a tonic and rejuvenative for the colon. It nourishes the nervous system, while it helps builds the blood. It causes internal cleaning of the liver and digestive tract.
Triphala is also widely taken for all eye diseases including the treatment of conjunctivitis, progressive myopia, the early stages of glaucoma and cataracts as a herbal eye tonic. The Haritaki present in Triphala contains eye rejuvenation properties.
Bringaraja - Eclipta alba
Bringaraja leaves are used in the treatment of liver cirrhosis, hepatitis and infective hepatitis,liver enlargement, jaundice and other ailments of the liver and gall bladder. It also shows good antifungal activity and is used for skin diseases, inflammation, and helps to keep the hair dark and lustrous. It has anti-inflammatory effects when applied to insect bites, stings, swellings and other skin diseases. The herb maintains and rejuvenates hair, teeth, bones, memory, sight, and hearing. It is an excellent hair tonic.
Eranda is Cathartic, demulcent, antiviral, analgesic, nervine and purgative. It is useful in abdominal disorders, colic, enlarged liver and spleen, fever, headache, lumbago, nervous diseases, pain relief (joints), promote menstrual discharge, It is also known to promote milk production.
It is also a useful poultice for inflammatory skin disorders, boils, carbuncles, abscesses, inflammation of the middle ear and migraine, rheumatic joints and all pains in the wrist, head and bladder.
Tila taila - Sesamum indicum
Sesame oil is immensely popular in India where its use in oil massage (abhyanga) is part of everyday life and an important aspect of Ayurveda. It is the favourite oil for massage as its chemical structure gives it a unique ability to penetrate the skin easily, nourishing and detoxifying even the deepest tissue layers. In fact it is said that it benefits all of the seven tissues (Dhatus). It is the best oil for balancing Vata but can also be used sparingly for Pitta and Kapha.
The antioxidants it contains are responsible for slowing the ageing process and increasing longevity, and regular oiling of the skin restores moisture to the skin, keeping it soft, flexible and young looking. It also lubricates the body internally, particularly the joints and bowels, and eases symptoms of dryness such as irritating coughs, cracking joints and hard stools.
