Panchakarma - The Ayurvedic Detox
Toxins from chemicals in our food, pollution in the environment, drinking, smoking, stress, chemical medication, etc. all accumulate in our body over a period of time. These toxins are the cause of myriad diseases and health and emotional problems. Western medicine has had no success in removing these toxins safely and effectively from our body. In Ayurveda every human being is a unique phenomenon of cosmic energy, which manifests itself thought the three basic elements or the “Tridosha” – Vata - Air, Pitta- Fire and Kapha - Water. Each individual’s constitution has its own unique balance of these three energies. When this “doshic” balanced is disturbed it leads causes damage to normal bodily functions leading to various health disorders and diseases.
The wrong diet, lifestyle, habits, seasonal changes, repressed emotions and stress factors can all act together or separately to imbalance ones doshas.
Panchakarma or five actions, is a purification, detoxification, cleansing and rejuvenating program for the body, mind and consciousness. It is known for its beneficial effects on overall health, wellness and self-healing. Pancha means five and Karma means treatment, thus the Panchakarmas includes five types of therapies, which are mainly used for purification or elimination of toxins.

Enema, mainly for removing Vata associated toxins, but alternative basti’s can be used to remove Pitta and Kapha toxins, depending on the medications used for the procedure.

It is an errhine therapy, which eliminated toxins through the nose. This treatment is beneficial in removing Kapha toxins from the head and neck region. It is excellent treatment for hay fevers, allergies, sinusitis, chronic headaches, thyroid problems and migraine.

Is a Detoxification of the blood, where blood is removed from an affected skin area either by leeches or venepuncture. It is highly effective in chronic non-healing wounds, Diabetic carbuncles and ulcers. This particular panchakarma procedure is sometimes administered in combination with other
panchakarma.

The scientific proof
It has now been scientifically proven that a natural purification treatment can successfully eliminate environmentally toxic substances such as polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB's) and pesticides from the body, without any negative side effects. A study at the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa in collaboration with a special laboratory at Colorado University demonstrated that classical Panchakarma treatment eliminated up to 50% of the detectable toxins in the blood.
