NEWS FEATURE

"Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya"..an Ancient Sanskrit text meaning "Lead me from darkness unto light", so prays the devotee to God. Lighting the lamp of true knowledge to dispel darkness of ignorance looming large on our minds is the need of the day. The prayer mantras seeking light are recited in broad daylight! When the pall of ignorance (Darkness) envelops the inner self, and the individual loses his sense of direction, his mind becomes numb and he loses his mental equilibrium. He fails to tell what is right and what is wrong. He becomes aimless and rudderless. He is caught in the whirlpool of false beliefs and superstitions leading to observance of meaningless rituals. Eventually he sinks into the dark abyss. Well, the spouse or mother of the fallen person is most suited to be an instrument of resurrection. The spouse or mother is a friendly critic who does constructive criticism with an eye on betterment of lifestyle. Aim is to let the reformed person lead a happy life after corrective measures have been taken.

IVAC is up to similar process like leading the people from Darkness to Light in the sense from Illness to Wellness, Dullness to happiness & Stress to Peace.

Come & join us to be “ Happy, Healthy & Hopeful” in your life

VAIDYA TALK

Peripheral Neuritis:

Peripheral neuropathy is a problem with the nerves that carry information from and to the brain and spinal cord. This produces pain, loss of sensation, and inability to control muscles."Peripheral" means nerves beyond the brain and spinal cord, Neuro" means nerves, "Pathy" means abnormal. The peripheral nerves relay information from your central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to muscles and other organs and from your skin, joints and other organs back to your brain. Peripheral neuropathy may involve damage to a single nerve or nerve group(mononeuropathy) or may affect multiple nerves (polyneuropathy).

Peripheral neuropathy may be either inherited or acquired. Causes of acquired peripheral neuropathy include physical injury (trauma) to a nerve, tumors, toxins, autoimmune responses, nutritional deficiencies, alcoholism, and vascular and metabolic disorders and most commonly in diabetes. The symptom depends on the type of nerve like sensory, motor, and autonomic nerves that is affected. Symptoms also depend on whether the condition affects the whole body or just one nerve.

Tests for neuropathy are guided by the suspected cause of the disorder and as suggested by the history, symptoms, and pattern of symptom development. They may include various blood tests, x-rays, scans(CT/MRI), Nerve conduction study, etc.

There are wider options for the cure or control of peripheral neuropathy in the alternative system of medicine, through various physical therapies, Ayurveda and Yoga. In general, adopting healthy habits, such as maintaining optimal weight, avoiding exposure to toxins, following a physician-supervised exercise program, eating a balanced diet, correcting vitamin deficiencies, and limiting or avoiding consumption of alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and hot spices, can reduce the physical and emotional effects of peripheral neuropathy.

Ayurvedic approach of Peripheral neuropathy:

In Ayurveda Peripheral nueropathy is correlated with Siragata Vata, which is due to vitiation of vata dosha (Air Energy) causing numbness, pain, tingling sensation and burning sensation. In Ayurveda, neuropathy can be treated through Basti pancha karma, Abhyanga, Patra pinda sweda, Navarkhizi(SSPS) and with internal medications affecting central nervous system.

Management of Peripheral neuropathy at IVAC:

After the diagnosis through Ayurveda, the panel of doctor at IVAC sets out to treat the patient in a very systematic manner. This would include a set of appropriate Panchakarma treatments and other supportive therapies. Basti Panchakarma treatment (Enema therapy with medicated oil) is best used to remove the accumulated vata in the body via colon there by strengthening the nerves and improves the blood circulation. Local massage with Dhanvantara Taila & Patra Pinda Sweda therapies are very helpful to bring the doshas back to balance and to rejuvenate the nerves. The treatment comprises diet regulations, daily regimens, yoga and a stress free lifestyle. Shastika shali pinda sweda is also an excellent rejuvenating therapy to nerves and gives great relief from the symptoms of neuropathy.
