President Message |
Dear Guest,
Cervical spondylosis is the most common cause of spinal cord dysfunction in older adults.
I was a sufferer of cervical spondylosis for several years. The MRI and CT scans showed severe narrowing of the spinal canal and my symptoms required constant pain medication. I started doing yoga and started feeling improvement slowly. When all my symptoms were gone over a period of two years I got my repeat MRI done and to my amazement, it was perfectly normal.
We can’t underestimate the benefits of Yoga and Ayurveda for a healthy lifestyle. They both are different sides of the same coin.
In my previous message I had covered my trip to San Francisco to attend the World Congress on Medical Tourism and my speech on how to synergize the medical tourism with Yoga and Ayurveda to achieve better outcome of the medical and /or surgical treatment. One could modify the lifestyle with the knowledge of Ayurveda to prevent illness by keeping mind and body in a state of balance.
People from more than fifty countries have visited our centre so far and it is our vision to bring the Ayurveda to the forefront of the mainstream medicine.
Let this great knowledge and wisdom of sages spread far and wide to benefit the humanity.
Regards,
Dr. Talavane Krishna
Founder President and Managing Director
IVAC, Mysore.

In Sanskrit, the term 'yoga' stands for 'union'. A yogi's ultimate aim is to be able to attain this 'union' with the Eternal Self with the help of certain mental and physical exercises. It is often said that Hiranyagarbha (The Cosmic Womb) Himself had originally advocated the traditional system of yoga, from which all other yoga schools have evolved. But for all extant knowledge of yoga and its practices, such as yogasanas and pranayama, the entire credit goes to Maharishi pathanjali .Yoga is a way of life. It is predominantly concerned with maintaining a state of equanimity at all costs. All yoga schools of thought -emphasize the importance of the mind remaining calm, because as the saying goes, only when the water is still can you see through it. Yoga Darshan or yoga philosophy also happens to be a valid discipline of Indian metaphysics (Brahma Vidya). It is the result of human wisdom and insight on physiology, psychology, ethics and spirituality collected together and practiced over thousands of years for the well being of humanity. The basic idea of yoga is to unite the atma or individual soul with the paramatma or the Universal Soul. According to Yoga philosophy, by cleansing one's mind and controlling one's thought processes one can return to that primeval state, when the individual self was nothing but a part of the Divine Self. This is the sense encapsulated in the term samadhi. The aim of the yogi is to be able to perceive the world in its true light and to accept that truth in its entirety. Patanjali systematized the various yogic practices and traditions of his times by encapsulating them in the form of aphorisms in his yogasutra. In this momentous work, he describes the aim of yoga as knowledge of the self.
Our IVAC believes that YOGA should be a part of life of every human, hence we do practice-teach-follow ,yoga & pranayama here. Experts do teach every one in a very simple & easy way- which sways you into WELLNESS! Join us for happy & yogic healing.

VAIDYA TALK |
Cervical Spondylosis
Cervical spondylosis is a 'wear and tear' of the vertebrae and discs in the neck, the underlying cause being age-related degeneration of the vertebrae and discs in the neck region. Cervical spondylosis, with advancing age involves the adjacent vertebrae and the para-vertebral structures reducing the elasticity of the inter-vertebral disks also leading to inflammatory changes. This in turn brings about calcification forming osteophytes in the adjoining structures. Symptoms can vary from mild to severe, which include pain in the neck spreading to the base of the skull and shoulders restricting the movement of the neck. The pain sometimes spreads down the arm to the hand or fingers caused by irritation of a nerve along with headaches from time to time and numbness. Medicines include Anti-inflammatory painkillers, muscle relaxants, Physiotherapy along with good posture, firm supporting neck rest, neck collar and exercises aiming to keep the neck movement as normal as possible. Other invasive treatments are Cervical Epidural Injection, Cervical Spine Surgery, Laminectomy, Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Cervical Artificial Disc Replacement
Ayurvedic Concept of Cervical Spondylosis
Ayurveda understands the functioning of the body as comprising of three basic functions - Movement, Change and growth & stability. In Ayurveda cervical spondylosis condition is known as Apa-bhavuka caused by the deranged Vata energy is responsible for the typical symptoms such as neck pain, restricted movement of neck, pain radiating to shoulders and arms, tingling sensation in the fingers etc. Ayurvedic Treatment comprises of three approaches, Elimination of the accumulated toxic by Nasya and pacifies vitiated vata with Rasna, Nirgundi, Dasamoola, Aswagandha etc herbs and Rejuvenation of the bodily tissue to regain and maintain natural strength and vitality.

Panchakarma treatments as Nasyakarma with Karpastyadi oil (Medicated oil-Nasal drops) is best used to cleanse the accumulated toxins from the head and neck region & help to reverse the disease-process giving decongestion of the spinal canal & nerve-root bony outlets, which can relieve cervical spondylosis. Other supportive therapies as Greeva basti and Nadi sweda. Yoga and relavent diet practices restore suppleness of the spinal joints resulting in dissolution of osteophytes & arresting the ongoing degenerative changes.
