Dear Guest,

“There is no love sincerer than
      The love of food”
        -   George Bernard Shaw

We, at IVAC, believe anything that involves love is a means to happiness and healing. Based on the culinary wisdom of ayurveda, we consider food as a divine gift; to cook, serve and eat in a spirit of joyful reverence by means of which we foster affectionate healing. Our modern hurried and hectic lifestyles hardly provide us an occasion to heed to the process of relishing and digesting the food we consume. Due to which, we fail to penetrate to a deeper level, of understanding food and its positive energies. This affects our physical and mental health. However, through ayurvedic cooking we don’t merely fortify our guest’s health but also attain spiritual dimension. And it is with this consideration that we are beginning Ayurvedic Cooking Classes at our Centre for the benefit of our guest’s; to learn and apply these simple yet valuable recipes into their daily lives for consistently maintaining good health. To us, eating is the most intimate relationship we have with the nature. And as disciples of the natural health care system, our cooking incorporates herbs and spices that have been recommended in the Vedas since ages for healthy body, mind and spirit. So, come learn and dine with us and experience the sensual transformation of positive energy; for your wellbeing is the thought that fills us completely while we cook for you.

Regards,
Dr. Talavane Krishna
Founder President and Managing Director

Food for Thought or Thought for Food?

Food, in ayurveda, refers to more than just plain cooking and eating. It is the process of knowledgably preparing and understandably eating something reverent and essential for the development of consciousness as well as our physical health. A nutritious diet is required to maintain health and combat diseases. But a nutritious diet solely will not meet our body’s needs. There is to be considered what and how we cook; what, when and how much we eat and what affect it will have on our body and mind. Intake of proper food promotes longevity, does not aggravate the doshas, and maintains a proper digestive system. Ayurvedically speaking, there is no general standard diet. Since each one of us is built differently; with a particular prakriti (constitution) and an agni (digestive fire), our ideal diet will also be distinct. Nevertheless, based the corresponding states of mind, ayurveda categorizes food into three kinds – Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic. Sattvic food such as fresh vegetables, fruits, honey and dairy products are said to be divinely enriching. While chillies, garlic, onion, tobacco, meat, alcohol and foods that are spicy and chemically processed belong to the Rajasic category and are inclined towards materialism. Fermented, canned or persevered foods are considered Tamasic that lead to pessimistic attitude. Then again, each time we cook, there is a little of our essence that permeates into the preparation, which creates its own kind of variation. Therefore it is very important to use this profound knowledge of food to not just satiate our taste-buds but achieve physical, mental and spiritual harmony within us.

VAIDYA TALK

Hypertension

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is a health condition where a person has persistent elevation of the blood pressure - a systolic (contraction) and diastolic (expansion) pressure of 20 mm Hg above the normal baseline pressure (120 & 70 respectively). This chronic disorder is influenced by a multiple of likely factors that include familial history of the disease, age, improper diet, digestion, toxin accumulation, imbalanced biological rhythms, obesity, stress, tobacco smoking and consumption of alcohol amongst others. Generally, undetected hypertension produces no definite symptoms except for a few indications like headaches, fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision and transient insomnia. But, the chief risk of untreated hypertension results in the development of medical complications such as strokes, heart attacks, kidney failures and retinal hemorrhage, thereby effecting life expectancy. Therefore, it becomes essential to get the blood pressure checked at regular intervals.

How does Ayurveda diagnose Hypertension?

According to ayurveda, High Blood Pressure (Raktha Chapa) is a result of many imbalances in the functioning modes of the body. Accumulation of toxins and impurities, aggravation of doshas, mental stress, unhealthy food and behavioral habits leads to the obstruction of circulation and elimination channels. Mending these factors and bringing back to normal the imbalances is the way ayurveda treats diseases including hypertension. Unlike modern medicine that identifies the gross physical abnormality and matches up drugs to deal with high blood pressure, ayurveda’s assessment is much deeper. It creates an ideal internal physical, psychological and spiritual environment to enliven the body’s natural healing abilities and to attain a highest state of health and well being.
