HERB SCOPE
Botanical Name:
          Tinospora cordifolia

Sanskrit name:
          Guduchi

English name:
          Heart-leaved Moonseed/Tinospora Gulancha

Therapeutics:

Guduchi, in Ayurveda, is considered the best herb for simultaneously balancing all the three doshas - vata, pitta and kapha (laws of the physiology). It is especially effective and unique in its ability to increase the quality and quantity of Ojas, the master coordinator between mind and body. It alleviates problems pertaining to indigestion and strengthens the immune system. It is also very useful in treating jaundice, asthma, gout, cough, fevers, urinary problems, diabetes, skin diseases, tuberculosis, leprosy and liver disorders. Recent studies show that it is being proposed for treating cancer patients before and after chemotherapy. At IVAC, Guduchi is used in various preparations and treatments like Kashayasekha and Patra Pinda Sweda as its antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic in nature; in Netra tarpana for its rejuvenating and relaxing effect; as well as in certain Soundaryavardhinis (facials) and Keshinis (hair treatment) for improving skin complexion.

Dear Guest,

‘Chernobyl’ of the 1986 fame has over the years become a global household word for being the biggest technological catastrophe and causing over 1.5 million people as victims of radiation poisoning, birth defects, loss of vision and appetite, cancer, thyroid disease, anemia, and depressed immune system. Chernobyl symbolizes atonement for our unrestrained yearning for progress. According to a recent research conducted at the Swedish National Institute for Working Life and the University of Oerebro, heavy users of wireless mobile phones face increased risks of developing severe brain tumors. So today, the ultimate question is: In quest of development where is man heading? What we need to realize is, its hi-time to halt and reorganize our way of life. Ayurveda, as in the case of Chernobyl where it played a vital role in treating and reducing illnesses associated with the accident, whether caused directly by radiation or by indirect stress and anxiety that has set apart life in the affected countries over the past 15 years, has by and large come to be looked upon as a universal health care system. At IVAC, we identify with the current health scenario caused by numerous technological factors such as processed food products, polluted environment, access to health-hazarding gadgets and machines, ingestion of chemicals in various ways and also physical and mental overburdening through work, flawed relations and negative emotions. Since wellbeing isn’t merely depended on physical healthiness, we do not just heal diseased body and soul but assist in lifestyle modifications to achieve holistic health. Walk with us along the path of an ayurvedic expedition that’s in-tune with modern concepts to purge sufferings, ailments and to ensure lasting peace and prosperity.

Regards,
Dr. Talavane Krishna
Founder President and Managing Director
IVAC, Mysore.

NEWS FEATURE

Touch… traditionally considered one among the five senses, today is much more than a mere sensory element. A loving touch is a healing instrument that can transform lives for the better. Over the years, this perception is being expressed in myriad forms of energy modalities like the Massage Therapy, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Acupressure, Magnet Therapy, Light Therapy and others. Although these may not independently cure health conditions, they assist in the management of alienation, isolation, hopelessness and depression that are often part of any physical illness. It also stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanism and brings about a positive change in the quality of life and well-being. At IVAC, we believe that healing is any process that enhances communication between body and soul. Hence, it’s not merely through a corporal mode that we seek to heal and nurture but through various thoughtful approaches like kind words, gentle smiles, tender massages, selfless considerations and other complementary means like music, fragrance, colour and cuisine. We foster affectionate touch as a tool to integrate physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of our guest’s well-being.

Join us as we celebrate the power of touch in healing!

VAIDYA TALK

Cancer

Cancer is not just once disease but many diseases. It is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues, thereby forming a mass called tumor. However, some cancers do not form tumors, as in case of Leukemia, a cancer of the bone marrow and blood. And not all tumors are cancerous either; tumor can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Cancer cells spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. A recent study shows that cancer causes about 13% of all deaths. Over the years scientists have been trying hard to find a cure for cancer, and thanks to the advances made, today cancer cures and alternative cancer treatments are available. But it is incurable and fatal unless detected in its early stage. Conventional treatment options may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy. And the choice of a particular cancer treatment depends on the stage of the cancerous tumor. Again, depending on the type of the disease, these cancer cures are used alone or in combination. However the journey with cancer is a long, stressful and strenuous one. The treatment procedure itself may be detrimental to the emotional well-being of the patient. And this is where Ayurveda steps in to offer holistic treatment.

Explain Ayurveda’s take on cancer

Ayurveda describes that in cancer, the blood becomes impure due to aggravation of one or more doshas (vata, pitta and kapha). Smoking, chewing tobacco, consuming alcohol, drug addiction, breathing in chemical fumes, eating foods that use high amount of preservatives, or vegetables and fruits that have been heavily processed with chemicals during cultivation are some factors amongst others that aggravate doshas in the body. Soon this impure blood along with the aggravated dosha circulates in the whole body and relocates in a region (organ/system) that has weak immunity. As a result the normal function of blood in that region is disrupted. This leads to improper cell division, which is termed as cancer.

Comment on IVAC’s assistance in healing cancer

Keeping Ayurveda’s scope and limitations in mind IVAC offers lot of support and comfort to patients Post Cancer treatment. To help deal with ablative surgery, radiation damage, chemotherapy hazards, toxicity of drugs and the weakness that follows, specific rejuvenation therapies and rasayanas are prescribed. Shodhana, Abhyanga & Sweda, and Panchakarma therapies (ayurvedic detox program) like Vamana, Virechana, Basti and Nasya are recommended to restore the immune system, by our Vaidyas based on one’s constitution and medical treatment undertaken. The chief focus is to improve vitality and rejuvenate the entire body since unlike other medical systems, ayurveda believes in finding and treating the root cause of a disease. Along with the ayurvedic therapies, IVAC aids in the process of healing cancer and its effects through various complimentary therapies like acupressure, aromatherapy, meditation and yoga. Diet and lifestyle modifications are also given equal importance. Again, IVAC with its pleasant and soothing ambiance reduces sensory input and avoids experiences that provoke strong emotions, eventually healing the health condition and improving the patient’s quality of life.

 ...Happy healing at IVAC!
