Stress and Depression
Stress and depression are increasing at a fast rate all over the world. They have become an inevitable part of our daily lives. Stress is a normal physical reaction to an internal or external pressure that is placed on our system. Events such as the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship are often negative and traumatic and cause stress. When the negative reactions to life's situations become repetitively intense and frequent we develop symptoms of depression. Stress can also occur as the result of a more positive event such as getting married, moving to a new city, or starting a new job. Life throws up innumerable situations, which we greet with both negative and positive emotions such as excitement, frustration, fear, happiness, anger, sadness and joy. Stress and Depression is prevalent among all age groups and in almost all walks of life.

In the beginning these changes are functional, but gradually they become organic and progress into full-fledged diseases. Researchers have found that significant biological changes take place in the body during periods of stress. And extended periods of stress can cause destructive changes in the body, such as depression and a suppressed immune system, which can eventually lead to heart disease, cancer, stroke, et al.
