Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by inflammation of the tissue around the joints, leading to swelling, pain, stiffness, and the possible loss of function in the affected area as well as in other organs of the body. This progressive illness has the potential to cause joint destruction and functional disability. |
|
It occurs when the body's immune system attacks tissues (groups of cells) that make up joints, thereby destroying it’s protective cartilage (the firm, rubbery tissue that cushions bones at the joints). In case of the ones suffering from rheumatoid arthritis the cartilage breaks down and wears away. As a result, the friction between the bare bones causes pain, swelling, and stiffness associated with this condition.

What is the ayurvedic approach to Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Ayurveda explains Rheumatoid arthritis as Amavata, where ‘ama’ is toxins consisting of undigested food materials originated by the abuse of 'kayagni' (main digestive fire situated in the stomach).
The disease Amavata is formed due to such vitiated ama (toxins) getting mixed with Vata (Air Energy). When the digestive fire is weak and ama is allowed to accumulate, it moves to different Kapha (Liquid energy) locations in the body especially joints, obstructing the circulatory channel along with causing imbalance in the other two energies (Vata - Air Energy and Pitta – Heat Energy). Thus, resulting in symptoms like Pain similar to a scorpion bite, Shifting pain, Stiffness of joints, Loss of movements, Increased temperature, Joint deformity, Loss of appetite and impaired immunity.
How does IVAC assist in the management of Amavata?
At IVAC, Rheumatoid arthritis is managed by alternative system of medicines. Ayurvedic Detox program comprising of Virechana (Purgation Detox) and/or Basti (Enema Detox) along with various rejuvenation therapies like Sarvangadhara, Kasayaseka, Shastika Sali Pinda Sweda and Patra Pinda Sweda, etc., are administered in order to cleanse the toxins and improve immunity thereby ensuring relief. Together with the main ayurvedic treatment, Yoga, Meditation, Breathing Techniques, Reiki, Acupuncture and other Natural therapies are also suggested and provided.
...Happy healing at IVAC!
