Ashtanga Yoga Immersion – 8-day sessions running every month

@ Indus Valley Ayurvedic center, Mysore

Learn the fundamentals of Ashtanga yoga in a comprehensive and simple structure, while experiencing the healing powers of Ayurveda.

Ashtanga yoga is a spiritual practice that will guide you towards discovering your inner self. It is also a dynamic system that will offer you a full workout from head to toe, taking you through a series of traditional asanas and ujayi breath.

In this 8-day immersion we will learn the fundamental postures of the Ashtanga Primary Series known in Sanskrit as ‘Yoga Chikitsa’, or yoga therapy. Many practitioners found the Primary Series invaluable in their healing process, both on the emotional and physical plane.

We will explore the following foundations of the Ashtanga practice:

  • Postural alignment and modifications of the Primary Series
  • Mysore style approach to learning
  • Breathing techniques (pranayama)
  • Locks (bandha)
  • Gazing point (drishti)
  • Traditional vinyasa count
  • Vinyasa workshop
  • Hip opening workshop
  • Backbending workshop
  • Meditation techniques
  • Cleansing techniques (kriya)
  • Yogic lifestyle and philosophy

Classes will be held twice daily and are suitable for all levels, including beginners and those who would like to further their personal practice. Afternoon sessions will focus more on the subtle elements of the practice.

You will also enjoy healing ayurvedic detox and daily rejuvenating ayurvedic treatments based on individual consultations with our in-house Indian ayurvedic doctor.

Prepare to sweat and still have plenty of free time to unwind and relax in the tranquil setting of Indus Valley, or take a refreshing dip in the pool.

stretch2All ashtanga yoga classes will be taught by Anna Kravtsova

Anna was first drawn to yoga during her young adult life in Russia, where she was born. At that time she was completing her Master of Arts studies in English, and at the age of 19 she began her exploration with asana. Her deep longing for spirituality and her attraction to eastern philosophy inspired her to move to Belgium in 2007 to live at the Krishna Bhakti ashram, where she simultaneously completed her second Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on yogic philosophy. During these years she sincerely devoted herself to ashram life, daily sadhana and the study of ancient yogic texts.

During her university life she traveled many times to India. With each journey, she fell in love with the land, and she felt transformed. Anna currently resides in Mysore, India where she teaches daily group and private sessions, and continues to draw daily inspiration from long-term study with her teachers Ajay Kumar and B.N.S. Iyengar, whose teachings are based on the traditional South Indian lineage of Krishnamacharya. Her weekly asana practice consists of primary, second and third series. Anna finds a certain excitement in discovering one’s inner potential through consistent yoga practice that transforms the body; while at the same time promotes a happy mind. In teaching, she sees the opportunity to share this beautiful tradition with her students.
